How to Pray and The Importance of Building a Solid Prayer Life

How to Pray and The Importance of Building a Solid Prayer Life

When we were children, we were likely  introduced to prayer that began with, “now I lay me down to sleep,” or “God is good, God is great.” But as we grow in age it’s important to remove those prayer training wheels and graduate to more personal conversations with God. The thing is, there is no right or wrong way to pray. So if you’re asking how to get started, the only way to do it, is to open up your heart to God and speak to him.

As we go through life, it may seem easy to come up with reasons as to why we don’t have time to pray, but in reality, it is what sees us through everything.

Prayer is not intimidating. Prayer is simple.

Praying is not time-consuming. Praying is effective.

Praying is not hopeless. Praying is powerful.

Praying is not uncomfortable. Praying is natural.

God doesn’t require that you pray like the pastor, youth leader or your friend that seems to have a direct line to God. The truth is, we all have a direct line to God. It’s called – yes, you guessed it – prayer. He didn’t mean for prayer to be intimidating, it’s actually one of the most convenient and easy things you can do for your life. God is omnipotent; he is everywhere, which means you can speak to him anywhere, anytime, about anything. In prayer, your education level doesn’t matter, your range of vocabulary doesn’t matter, your status in society doesn’t matter. God is not concerned with whether or not you sound like the most eloquent college professor in your prayer. All he wants is for you to have faith in him and come to him with an open heart.

Understanding the Power Praying

Prayer speaks positivity, blessings and richness into your life. The conversations you have with God brings you closer to him. It gives you an ear that’s more in tune with his voice; you’ll be able to discern when he’s speaking and guiding you. You will begin to have a deeper understanding of the Bible, God will begin to reveal things about yourself and others around you, and you will gain more strength to continue to live in his will and his word.

All we have to do is speak to God, and he will answer. Unload what’s in your heart and mind, tell him your desires, ask for forgiveness, ask for advice – just don’t forget to believe that he can and he will in his timing, which is always the right time.

Supportive Scripture

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” – Jeremiah 33:3

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
